What an amazing weekend all round! I visited the National Print Museum in Beggars Bush and came out to a clamp on my car…While parked beside the sign that said clamping in operation… I guess they dont read about free Dublin events but oh well 🥲

National Print Museum

Haddington Road Barracks - Free - 9am - 4pm

The National Print Museum offers art lovers a unique experience in discovering how literature was printed from the 15th century all the way up to the 1980s. In October 2023, the temporary exhibition “Miniature Masterpieces: 100 Years of Irish Stamps” will open through the festive period.

Every Thursday in October is coined the Thursday Lates, and means the museum is open until 9pm. There is an exhibition on "Grand Stuff: Label Art from Ireland" which I got to experience this weekend. It was incredible to see the details that once were on our labels. This collection closes next weekend on the 15th and I really suggest going before it does.

Dublin Festival of History 2023

Today – Sunday 15^th October - Various Locations

Visit, learn and celebrate the great history of Dublin at this year’s Dublin History Festival. Now in its 11^th year, the Dublin History Festival will play host to over 200 FREE events, from talks, tours, exhibitions, films and family friendly events, there is something for everybody. The variety doesn’t stop there, with events online, as Gaeilge, or with Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpretation.

Dublin Festival of History is brought to you by Dublin City Council and organised by Dublin City Libraries, in partnership with Dublin City Council Culture Company.

For more details on the events taking place, printed programmes are available at local libraries and  Richmond Barracks, Inchicore and  14 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1. Tickets are limited so be sure to book in advance!

Museum of Literature Ireland

Stephen's Green - 6pm - Free

On the first Friday of the month, the Museum of Literature Ireland is free to enter. As it happens, the First Friday is tomorrow. You can discover what's on offer in the range of programmed events, including a discussion (as part of Dublin Festival of History) with Donal Fallon of Three Castles Burning and playwright Jimmy Murphy about Anthony Cronin’s memoir of Bohemian Dublin, Dead As Doornails, as well as a reading by Eva Kenny.

There will be a limited number of whiskey tasting samples, courtesy of the Dublin Liberties distillery. The Commons Café is also open late!

Tickets must be pre booked and allow access between 6pm - 9pm, although last entry is at 8pm. Are you a budding historian?

Last Call For Applicants - Deadline Tomorrow

DCC are looking for up to five historians who would like to spend a year in residence with Dublin City Libraries and Dublin City Council Culture Company, engaging with local communities, conducting research and promoting access to our historical collections, so that everyone in Dublin City has an opportunity to feel a connection to their local history.

Closing date for applications: Friday 6 October 2023.

Dublin Comic Arts Festival

Richmond Barrack – Saturday 7^th – Sunday 8^th – Free!

The Dublin Comic Arts Festival is an ongoing series of quarterly small press comic book events in Dublin.

DCAF is a small press comic book event, created to showcase local comic creators and celebrate the spectrum of Irish sequential art. The small press comic scene has been growing in Ireland for years, but Irish comic creators often travel across the globe to find Comic Arts Festivals to exhibit their work. We feel it's time for some Comic Arts Festivals closer to home!

Tour the Botanic Gardens + Sculpture in Context

National Botanic Gardens, Free Admission!

The beautiful Botanic gardens will play host to an astounding collection of contemporary works by over 120 Irish and International artists.

The National Botanic Gardens Glasnevin are currently open for Summer Hours, from 9.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays and 10am to 6.00pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and of course, entry is free.

The Fabulous grounds will cater for over 140 sculptures, from the simple to the intrinsically detailed. Sculptures will be situated beneath the falling leaves of the beautiful autumnal tress throughout the magnificent gardens, as well as throughout the ponds and the Great Palm House with smaller pieces located in the visitor centre.

Visit on Saturday, to explore the outstanding exhibition by the guidance of participating artists, to learn more about Ireland’s largest outdoor and indoor sculpture exhibition.
