What’s the story in Dublin this week?

What a weekend eh? Thanks to the rain on Friday night, my ticket to the Saturday day session of the Big Grill was rescheduled. But as B*Withed say C’est la Vie

We’ve rounded up five cool things happening this week in Dublin for Free! Discover the buzz in Dublin this week! There are so many cool events this weekend but two that I really have my eye on are the 3fe & Whiplash cross over event in the IFSC tomorrow night and then the All Ireland Final in Malahide CC this Sunday. My local club are in it and there is a little bit of a buzz about the town with the team going for their first championship win.

This week we are covering solely Free events! We really love getting into the best cultural events and not just live music!

Smithfield Fleadh

Saturday August 26th & Sunday 27th - Smithfield Square

Celebration traditional music at Dublin City Council's Smithfield Fleadh! This fantastic, two-day outdoor extravaganza in the heart of Dublin city is free for all to enjoy. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of traditional Irish melodies, spanning across generations, as legacy and emerging artists take the stage.

There is an incredible lineup of performers, including the toe-tapping rhythms of The Bonnymen, the harmonious melodies of The Dublin Trio featuring Kevin Conneff from The Chieftains, the lively tunes of Pólca 4, the enchanting sounds of Harp Ireland, the masterful piping of Na Píobairí Uilleann, and the captivating performances by Comhaltas.

But there's more! Engage in lively discussions, participate in fascinating workshops, and revel in the infectious energy of dancing. Feel the spirit of Irish culture come alive as you join a Sean-Nos Dancing workshop to learn a few impressive steps or immerse yourself in the lively Balfolk’s ‘Euro-Céilí’ Folk Dancing.

Alcohol is not permitted within the event space, but you can have some at the nearby restaurants and bars.

3fe Common Spaces

Friday August 25th - 6pm - IFSC - Free

Mark your calendars for an incredible night on Friday, August 25th, at the vibrant 3fe IFSC! Whiplash Beer & 3fe have come together to celebrate the remarkable work of the talented @izzyrosegrange.

Prepare for an evening filled with banging tunes that will captivate your senses, accompanied by a delicious selection of 3fe coffee and the renowned brews of Whiplash beer.

But that's not all! You'll have the exclusive opportunity to hear directly from Izzy herself as she guides us through her inspirations, creative processes, and the magnificent artwork she has crafted for Whiplash cans. Saturday 26th - Botanic Gardens - Free - 2pm

Open Studio: Trailblazers, Rule Breakers, Art Makers

Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th - 12pm to 6pm - Mountjoy Square Park - Free

Discover the world of art at Open Studio drop-in sessions happening this Friday and Saturday. These free sessions require no booking and offer a creative haven for art enthusiasts. Immerse yourself in artistic exploration this Friday and Saturday from 10:30am to 4:30pm.

The Gallery Youth Panel, a diverse group of young people aged 16 to 25, curates impactful experiences for fellow art enthusiasts. Join this vibrant community and unlock your artistic potential together.

Located on level 1 of the Gallery, the Education Studio is easily accessible and provides essential facilities such as accessible toilets, baby changing, and a Changing Places facility. Our on-site Education Team is dedicated to supporting your artistic journey.

Experience the joy of art, connect with like-minded individuals, and embrace the endless possibilities of creativity. Attend the Open Studio drop-in sessions and embark on a transformative artistic adventure.

All Ireland T20 Final

Sunday 27th - 11am - Malahide Cricket Club - Free

This Sunday sees two All Ireland Finals take place in Malahide Cricket Club. At 11am Merrion CC take on Northern counterparts Foxlodge CC in the women’s final. Merrion narrowly missed out on winning the Division 1 title by 1 thousand of a point! One of the closest finsihes a league has seen.

At 3pm, Balbriggan CC take on CIYMS from Belfast. The Dublin side are reigning Premiership champions and currently sit second in the league this year. Having won the Leinster T20 competition, they now face off in Malahide to be crowned All Ireland Champions.

Admission to the final is free, with a full bar and BBQ on offer in the club house. This is a stellar day in the Irish cricket caledar and an excellent introduction to cricket for all the family.
