We’re rounded up five cool things happening this week in Dublin for Free!

Hello, Hello! It’s the start of festive season in my mind this weekend. Two Christmas Markets launch over the weekend and the moving crib starts it’s long run.

The Dockers of Dublin Port

Thurs, 23 Nov - Saturday 26th Nov - Free - The Substation

Explore this new exhibition curated by The Little Museum of Dublin at the Substation. The newly refurbished Substation building on Alexandra Road is being launched alongside this brilliant event.

Solidarity charts the story of one of Ireland’s most fascinating industrial subcultures: the dockers. Their story is one of hardship but also one of humour and resilience.

The event will run every Thursday to Sunday from 11:30am to 3:30pm each day. You can find out more information here. 

The Enchanted Garden

Now until 10th Dec - 4 - 8pm - Free - The Shackleton Garden

Step into a world of pure holiday joy at Shackleton Festive Lights and Christmas Markets! Immerse yourself in a jubilant atmosphere as you browse through vibrant markets, brimming with festive treats, handcrafted gifts, and seasonal delights.

Discover unique presents for loved ones while enjoying dazzling decorations and live entertainment. Make Shackleton Festive Lights a highlight of your holiday season in Clonsilla's Shackleton Garden. The event runs from November 20th to December 10th, transforming the garden into a winter wonderland from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm each evening.

Admission is free—just show up and bask in the festive magic. Enhance your experience by walking or cycling due to limited parking. Embrace the holiday enchantment at Shackleton Festive Lights!

Swords Castle Christmas Market

Friday - Sunday - Free - Swords Castle

Immerse yourself in the festive spirit at Swords Castle Christmas Market. Explore the charming stalls adorned with twinkling lights, savor the aroma of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. This is the perfect way to kickstart your Christmas celebration!

This Friday will have a super special Christmas Tree lighting ceremony from 6pm as the Mayor of Fingal announces the arrival of Christmas! There will be more than 50 stalls, live music and a bar for mulled wine all over the tree days. Kids can visit Santa Claus, however this will cost €5 with a gift.

Bremore Christmas Market

Sunday, 26th Nov - 11am - 4pm - Free Entry

Get ready to embrace the festive season at the Bremore Castle Christmas Markets, commencing on Sunday, November 26th. Step into the historic Bremore Castle and discover a delightful marketplace filled with unique gifts and treasures.

This is the perfect occasion to soak up the festive charm and explore the wonders within the castle's historic walls. From handcrafted treasures to special finds, you'll find something truly special for your loved ones.

Get down to Bremore Castle and let the holiday spirit fill the air. Don't miss out on this wonderful experience that will bring joy and excitement to your festive celebrations!

National Gallery of Ireland - Guided Tour

Saturday November 25th - 2.30pm - free

To start off the tour, meet your tour guide in the Courtyard, near the Merrion Square entrance.

The NGI Visitor Guide is like the bible for details of what to expect on your visit to the Gallery. Every answer you can think of has been fitted into this! You can read the guide here.

All public tours are fully accessible to people who are hard of hearing and use a tour guide system with T-loop capabilities.

The National Gallery run a regular programme of free guided tours in the Gallery. Everyone is welcome - no booking required! These tours are aimed towards including the entire community. Take a look below at one that might suit you better.

  • Highlights Tours: Saturdays at 12.30pm and 2.30pm, Sundays at 1.30pm and 2.30pm

  • Themed Tours: Saturdays at 1.30pm

  • Family Tours: Sundays at 12.30pm

  • New Parents' Tours: the 2nd Monday of the month at 2pm

  • Tours for the hard of hearing: the 1st Thursday of every 2nd month at 5.30pm
